Early-stage development of a green hydrogen and ammonia project in Abu Dhabi, covering project strategy, feasibility, site evaluation, process selection, preliminary engineering, and execution planning. The assignment focused on establishing a technically and commercially viable foundation for a large-scale energy transition project.
Project Context
Unlike conventional terminal or refinery EPC, this project required structuring a new energy system from first principles. Key challenges included selecting and integrating hydrogen and ammonia technologies under evolving standards, aligning production with renewable energy availability and water resources, defining a bankable project basis without a fixed reference configuration, and managing regulatory, stakeholder, and infrastructure uncertainties at an early stage.

Chemie-Tech delivered a structured pre-development framework covering project definition, objectives, and constraints; market assessment and off-take considerations; site screening including geotechnical, utilities, and renewable resource evaluation; technology evaluation for hydrogen generation and ammonia production; mass and energy balance development; preliminary plot plans, block flow diagrams, and equipment definition; utilities and off-sites integration; and execution strategy including schedule, risk management, procurement, QA/QC, and organisation.
